Prominent Hungarians discovered in FARA eFiles

US Justice Department’s National Security Division announced the launch of an electronic system, called FARA eFile.  FARA (Foreign Agents Registration Act) is a public disclosure statute that requires all persons acting as agents of foreign principals in a political or quasi-political capacity to make periodic public disclosure of their relationship with the foreign principal, as well as activities, receipts and disbursements in support of those activities.

Based on the original documents, atlatszo.hu introduces Hungarian activities in the last 20 years. These yet uncovered accounts of Hungarian public funds usage show well-known businessmen and prominent Hungarian Americans – not exempt from Hungarian day to day politics – receiving assignments, the American campaign advisor of the SZDSZ party managing to pull through an undisclosedly PR-driven piece in the New York Times and a former communist secret service officer from the counter-American department rehashing his profession by working for the Hungarian embassy in Washingon.
